Aerojet Rocketdyne Process Engineering Specialist - Metal Fitting & Joining (Second Shift) in Canoga Park, California


Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. We provide a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion. These include the RS-25 (SLS), THAAD, EKV, CCtCAP, Delta launch vehicles, and the RS-68 engines. We are seeking a Process Engineering Specialist with a focus in metal fitting/stacking/joining to hire on to our Manufacturing Team in Canoga Park, CA . This will be a second shift position.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Working under minimal direction:

30% - Oversee and troubleshoot critical metal fitting & braze foiling operations for tubes, ducts, flanges, liners, jackets and similar components prior to weld/brazing operations.

35% - Develop processing parameters and document best practices to support production.

10% - Implement process controls, including statistical controls, to fitting processes to reduce/eliminate rework.

10% - Define tube fab & metal fitting equipment/specification requirements.

10% - Perform root cause analysis, disposition discrepant hardware, define and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrance.

5% - Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications. Communicate effectively between team members and customer counterparts.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Weld/Braze Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology (or other related discipline) and 9 years of related experience in aerospace working with nickel, stainless, ferrous and aluminum alloys (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience working with Torch Weld Jigs (TWJ) , setting weldments up for exact shrinkages to fit TWJ post weld.

  • Experience/knowledge of working with metallic braze alloys and joining processes of dissimilar materials.

  • Experience dispositioning hardware and performing root cause analysis.

  • Process capability and statistical analysis experience.

  • Previous experience developing weld / metal fitting parameters for manual and In-Place-Tube or Automatic G.T.A. welding.

  • Familiarity working with electronic planning, drawings, and pertinent documents such as weld parameters.

  • Demonstrated teaming skills.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral) are required, along with the ability to lead teams and work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Experience using appropriate PPE.

Experience with the following are a plus:

  • Working with D17.1 or Journeyman Weld certifications.

  • Writing technical specifications.

  • Using electronic planning and drawings.

  • Experience with heat treat/furnace operations.

  • Stacking/foiling liners/nozzles.

  • Moving large structures or hardware.

  • Familiarity working in a controlled clean room environment with FOE/FOD controls.

  • Experience performing pneumatic leak testing with Helium or Nitrogen using either bubble check or mass spectrometer.

  • Knowledge of working with threaded fasteners, safety cable/lockwiring.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
